My Pleasing Art

I finished an illustration this week that I’m particularly proud of.
It’s for a new business called ‘Mums On Call’, which rather cleverly offers to ease the workload of busy mums, so this includes babysitting, shopping services and more. We all know that mums need help (I’m a mum of two young children - 3yrs and 6yrs, and I could cry sometimes from lack of time!).
Mums On Call aims to offer assistance, and mums can expect the help to come from other experienced mums. Hence the name ‘Mums On Call’
When designing the logo I decided that the tagline ‘Family Concierge For Busy Mums’ was a perfect description for this high quality service and so presented this to the client along with the logo design concept. Not only does it sound high quality and professional, it makes it clear that this is a service for families….so men need not feel alienated to call in a ‘Mum’ if they need one!
Lets face it, men probably need the service more don’t they…eh eh
nudge nudge …

The client took to the first logo design concept shown to her immediately (this happens to me constantly actually), which I was pleased about because I love it and was very pleased with the illustration also.
This is one of my favourite illustrations to date. What I love about it is;
- Shimmering glow in the blonde hair of the ‘mum getting away from it all’.
- The plant pot flowers…these were a quick swoosh of my hand, but I immediately loved the ‘hot house flower’ petal result.
-The two/three tone grass and undulating waves of this area.
- Lovely highlight on the sexy mum’s sexy leg
ha ha…
Its a bit hard to see the detail at this size (sorry but my Wordpress system won’t let me insert any image any bigger than this without distorting it) but if anyone wants to see it bigger, just let me know and I’ll email a big version for you to look at.
I will soon commence work on the web design for Mums On Call so watch this space.
UPDATE: 3.12.07
The front end web design is complete and I’m pleased to say the holding page can been seen at http://www.mumsoncall.co.uk/. The rest of the pages will launch soon are being built by development company Blue Cube Media.
The client has been receiving fantastic feedback about the brand:
“I just also want to say a huge THANK YOU to you for your fabulous designs for my logo and illustration.
I have had so many comments from people from all walks of life – from the school gate mums to high flying friends of mine who work in PR and journalism. They all say that the image is spot on and looks both professional and head-turning. It’s something you remember once you’ve seen it.”
We’ve also recently designed their stationery:

GREYSCALE FOR ANDREW:

Nice logo, however, I’d be concerned about how it would transcribe into B+W and at small size. Would the pink be a light grey? If so, how would the mum and child then look?

Hi Andrew,
I find very few logos and graphics don’t work in greyscale, I’ve shown the logo in greyscale for you above, works just fine still
Best Wishes

Oh yes, a note about logos and graphics in small sizes.
When logos and graphics/illustrations are shown very small on a pc screen they aren’t as legible as when printed, especially small text.
When small text is printed however it comes out much cleaner than sharper than an on screen ‘Internet’ version.
