Illustrators Rut?

Those familiar with my illustrative style will be surprised by the above image. I recently created this illustration for a client and it’s a complete departation (not convinced thats a real word, but it should be) from my usual style.
But that’s just the thing, I don’t have a style - I simply have a style that is most often requested, and therefore it is an illustration style that is what is most often produced by me…and then my portfolio becomes over-run by this certain style. See samples below of my ‘typical style’;

Therefore it’s not me that has a specific illustrative style that is my ‘house style’ as they call it in the trade, but rather that my clients do - which of course are attracted to me by my portfolio…which is now full of this particular style at this point.
Don’t get me wrong, I love colourful ‘pop-art’ style illustrative work and it’s definitely ‘me’ - I do enjoy creating colourful designs, but I actually have the ability to illustrate in pretty much any style required, it’s just that I don’t have much evidence of this fact!
Not to say that having a ‘house style’ is a bad thing, Jason Brooks has a house style, it’s not hurting him any!
(My idol and world famous illustrator, most famous for his Hedkandi Music CD covers)
I like to try and diversify however, and so it’s nice to have something different through the door to illustrate from time to time.
